What does Botox do?

Botox is an injectable treatment that can substantially reduce or eliminate lines and wrinkles in the face. Botox is made from a highly purified toxin that's used in only small quantities. This treatment is quick, easy, and highly effective. Botox has become the most popular non-invasive cosmetic enhancement in the US today.

How does Botox work?

Botox slows down the muscles that contract many times each day to cause lines in the skin. Patients who have Botox injected will still have the ability to move their facial muscles because it's not a complete and total muscle paralysis. However, people will be more aware of movements because it's more challenging to make those wrinkle-creating muscle motions.

What areas can Botox be used in?

The between eyebrow "11" lines are a common area for Botox injections. Horizontal forehead lines are also treated often. The crow's feet, the group of lines that crinkle up when smiling, are a very common spot for Botox injections. While not as common, Botox can also be used to lift the edges of drooping lips, to smooth out cords in the neck, or in the tiny "smoker's lines" around the mouth.

Can Botox be used along with dermal fillers?

Yes, the team at Lasercare Skin Clinic can use Botox and dermal fillers in combination, and they work well together as each serves a very different purpose. Botox takes care of the dynamic wrinkles that occur due to muscle movements. The static wrinkles, which result from volume loss over time, can be plumped up with dermal fillers.

How long does Botox last?

This can vary by patient, but the majority of people experience 3-4 months of wrinkle correction per treatment session. Once the patient starts having Botox treatments on a regular basis and achieves the optimal level of wrinkle correction, they may be able to go longer in between their treatments.

What do the Botox injections feel like?

Most people tolerate the Botox injections quite well, feeling little to no pain. Ice packs may be used to help numb the area both before and after the treatment session if needed.
