Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Unwanted body hairs cause frustration, low self-esteem, and a lot of hassle if you’re regularly shaving, plucking, or waxing. That’s why the promise of long-term or even permanent hair removal treatment excites so many men and women. With laser hair removal technology, you may be able to get rid of unwanted areas of body hair for good.

Once you’re satisfied with your laser hair removal results, how long can you expect them to last?

Eliminating unwanted body hair

Laser hair removal treatment makes for a quick and easy hair removal option. Your treatment session might only take a few minutes to complete!

Your provider at Lasercare Skin Clinic uses a specialized tool to non-invasively target hair follicles in your desired treatment area. Our laser tool doesn’t affect the surface of your skin. Instead, it heats up the pigment in your body hairs.

The heat travels down to target the hair follicles in the deep layers of your skin that grow your unwanted body hairs. Laser stimulation damages or destroys these follicles completely, preventing hair regrowth.

If a hair follicle isn’t currently growing a hair, the laser won’t successfully target it. That’s why it’s not a good idea to pluck or wax before a laser hair removal treatment. It can also be a challenge to completely destroy follicles producing light-colored or short hairs.

Long-lasting results

Follicles completely destroyed by laser hair removal treatment won’t regrow hair again. However, if your hair follicles are only damaged, and not completely destroyed, during a single treatment session, you might eventually see some hair regrowth. Regrown hair may be lighter in color and less noticeable than before laser hair removal treatment.

Your body hairs grow in on a cyclical basis, so you might need multiple spaced-out treatment sessions over the course of 2-3 months to target all the hair follicles in a single treatment area. Otherwise, you could start to see unwanted regrowth within the space of a few months.

With followup laser hair removal sessions, it may be possible to completely destroy all the follicles in a treatment area, making your hair removal results permanent.
